Class of 2012 Scores Big on Scholarships

The class of 2012 has been awarded more than $230,000 in academic scholarships. That's remarkable. Even more remarkable is that there are only 23 graduating seniors.

The faculty and staff of Cumby ISD are very proud of each and every one of the graduating seniors. WELL DONE!
Community Meeting

Cumby ISD is holding a community meeting on Wednesday, May 23rd at 7:00 to discuss the financial state of the district. Mr. Campbell will hold a budget workshop to explain how the August 11th Tax Ratification Election will impact the overall CISD Budget. He will also take the necessary time to listen to the community and answer questions.
Student Laptop Information for School Year 2012-2013

Cumby High School will be issuing laptops to all 9th through 12 grade students at the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year. We are currently planning and writing procedures to put the laptop deployment into effect. However, we wanted you to be aware of some general information so parents and students can be making plans.

- Each student will receive a school laptop that is theirs to use for the school year. They will be turned back in at the end of school. This is to allow for maintenance and cleanup. If a student needs a laptop over the summer break, it will be considered on a case by case basis.

- Cumby High School will be issuing a backpack that has a padded compartment designed to protect the laptops. You do not need to buy a backpack for your student(s). There are additional compartments in the backpack for normal school supplies. Students will be expected to use the school provided backpack to protect their laptops.

- We will be purchasing accidental damage insurance for the laptops with a $100 deductible. If the laptop is damaged or something happens to it that is not covered by the normal warranty, parents/students will be expected to pay for the damage, up to a maximum of $100 for each instance.

- We are in the process of developing a contract that covers school, parent, and student responsibilities. Students will NOT be issued a laptop unless a parent/guardian and the student agree to the content of the contract by signing and returning the contract to school.

- Laptops will have filtering software installed that will work anywhere. Additionally, there will be software installed on the laptops that allow school personnel to monitor each student laptop’s screen. This feature will NOT work outside of school. The laptop must be connected to the school network for this to work.

Cumby ISD and Cumby High School are excited about this opportunity for our students. We believe the learning process will be enhanced and each student will have an equal opportunity for learning because everyone will have the same technology available. We ask that you, as parents and guardians, help us ensure the success of this initiative by helping us hold students accountable for how the laptops are used and taken care of.

More information will be available soon. Procedures and policies will be put online and on our social media site, as they are developed and approved. Please stay tuned. If you have any questions on this initiative, contact Tony Martin at tony.martin@cumbyisd.net or Greg Caldwell at greg.caldwell@cumbyisd.net.
